Our talent hunt for young masters

Pick them young, shape them up, see them score

If you have been nurturing the spirit of sports within you, we are here to help you bloom into accomplished sports personalities. Finding the right talent for the right event is a daunting task with our potential players hidden in the remotest regions of the State.

Towards this, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs has been conducting a yearly talent hunt among children from 2019 across the State. With an intake margin of 390 students at the GV Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram, our team visits the various corners of the State as well as district headquarters and put to test the sporting skills of young talents in various sports streams. The talent hunt for the year 2020-21 was concluded in February, 2020 with nearly 12,500 participants from all over the State.

A ranklist will be published after detailed scrutiny of the participants from different quarters and admissions provided accordingly. Students seeking admissions from standard 6 to 12 can partake in the various events. While students in class 6 and 7 will be tested for their general sports skills and provided training for two years, their areas of interest and skills will be identified in due course, streamlining them to their special sports events from Standard 8 onwards.

The eleven sporting disciplines in which they will be duly trained include Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Wrestling, Hockey, Judo, Boxing, Weightlifting, Cricket, Taekwondo and Athletics.

A transparent testing and selection process ensures inclusion of the most deserving talents in various streams. Once selected, students are provided free schooling, accommodation, food, training and access to the modern infrastructural facilities including a synthetic track at the GV Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram.
